Director(s): Saverio Costanzo

Director and screenwriter Saverio Costanzo is the son of the famous journalist and anchor Maurizio Costanzo. He graduated from Sapienza University in Roma, in sociology of communications. Following several experiences as radio anchor, screenwriter for the television and director of advertising spots, he moved to New York in the late 90s. He started working there as a cameraman and assistant director and then evolved to producing documentaries. In 2011, together with Mario Gianani, he established Offside, a production company. It started with producing documentaries and history shows for television and later with long feature films including his own first movie, Private in 2004. Positivey received by international critic, Private has won several awards such as the Pardo d’oro (Golden Leopard) and the Special Jury Prize at Locarno Festival in 2004. In 2005, Saverio Costanzo won the following Italian awards: Nastro d’Argento (Silver Ribbon) for best emerging director and David di Donatello for best new director. In 2007 he presented his second movie, In memoria di me, at the Berlinale. In 2009 he bought the film adaptation rights for La solitudine dei numeri primi, a best-seller by Italian writer Paolo Giordano. His latest film, Hungry Hearts (2014) is inspired by Il bambino Indaco, a novel by Marco Franzoso.
